An Infant's Friend Is A Pediatric Dentist

Pediatric dentistry is a branch of dentistry which deals with oral health of children from infancy to their adolescence. Dentist observes a child's teeth, gums, and mouth throughout various stages from childhood. It is recommended that a dental visit should occur in a period of six months after presence of an infant's first tooth. This will improve child's dental care as well as educate parents on how they regulate dental routine for their family.

Usual Pediatric Dental Procedures:

Stainless steel crowns:

Teeth may have extensive damage to enamel, dentin and pulp. In such a case, stainless steel crowns are used to replace those poorly decayed teeth to hold white fillings.

Composite Resin:

Tooth colored fillings restore back or front decayed tooth or where if needed. It matches closely to color of natural teeth and composites are used to repair fractured teeth or areas of dental cavity.

Radio-graphs:

Infants need x-rays more than adults because their mouths grow fast and change rapidly. X-rays may show weakness of teeth than naked eye. It is easy to ease the children's dental trouble if there is a low risk of tooth decay.

Dental cleanse:

When a person visit dental office, primary step is that dental hygienist collects child's dental history. Then child's mouth is examined by dentist, and then they go for further procedures.

Clean with a soft cloth over finger.

With damp wash cloth gently wipe the teeth, tongue, after meals and at bedtime.

Fluorides:

Use a light smear of fluoridated toothpaste for brushing and excess paste should be wiped out with soft cloth. Dentist may consider some other less fluoride supplements for newborns.

Dental Cavity:

Each office visit, dental caries risk assessment should be taken. This will help to find earlier stage of caries. Pediatric will repair decay with tooth-colored fillings. Possible factors for infants include habit of not swallowing food, sleep disturbances, systematic disease, poor oral hygiene, enamel defects and so on. Result of dental cavity will help to determine the need and preventive measures.

Pulp Treatments:

Pulpotomy(pulp therapy) is used to treat affected nerves and blood vessels in  teeth. This is necessary for two reasons: either as a result of extensive tooth decay or tooth injury.

Purpose of this is to extend the life of baby tooth and also maintain space between teeth.

As technology is increased day by day, methodology of infant dental care also on high. Do practicing the child should aware of dental treatment for future.
